Despite Utah football starting the season 2-0 and looking like they’re in good shape for a playoff spot at the end of the year, Week 2 hasn’t exactly been a banner time in Salt Lake City. There’s the injury to Cam Rising to put a damper on things first of all.

Now it looks like the Utes are about to lose out on one of their top targets. Again.

It’s been quite the soap opera regarding Jerome Myles. There was the time Kyle Whittingham’s team seemingly lost the 5-star wide receiver prospect to Ole Miss. Then, Utah football thought it was back in the running.

Now, it looks like the Utes are about to lose Myles to another program. This time, Steve Wiltfong has called the USC Trojans the front runners.

Utah football could be about to lose out on big in-state prospect

The Utes have been battling USC, Ole Miss and Texas A&M for months now for the Corner Canyon prospect. However, Myles visited Los Angeles this weekend and apparently liked what he saw enough that he’s been swayed towards the Big Ten team.

Perhaps the most interesting aspect of this recruiting battle is that it used to be a fight between two conference rivals. However, with Utah now in the Big 12 and USC in the Big 10, he won’t have a chance to play in front of his home state fans.

Of course, it’s evident with his commitment to Ole Miss earlier that playing in Utah wasn’t all that important to Myles anyway. Perhaps that should have been a sign of how things would turn out.

The Utah football team isn’t out of the fight yet, but On3’s RPM has him as a very strong lean to Lincoln Riley and company, leaving Kyle Whittingham in the dust.
