While the Utah football team is 2-0 and looking like it will be able to roll over most of the rest of the schedule, there is a reason to worry. When Cam Rising was in the game against Baylor, it was clear the Utes were dominant.
However, when he had to leave the game with an apparent injury to a finger or several fingers on his throwing hand, the offense ground to a halt. Knowing that, Utes fans are clearly anxious to know if Rising will be back for this week’s game. Unfortunately, head coach Kyle Whittingham won’t say.
Whittingham went on record at his Monday press conference that he doesn’t update player injuries, including Rising. So, for now, Utah football fans are left waiting and holding their breath.
The concerns around Rising being healthy grow because even Whittingham freely admitted that the offense simply wasn’t as good with backup Isaac Wilson in at quarterback.
Utah football won’t update on Cam Rising injury status
The Utes coach went out of his way to make sure people knew that the offense struggling a bit when the freshman gunslinger came in wasn’t entirely his fault. He said the win went out of the team’s sails when Rising went down.
Whittingham also said that in the weeks of practice in the regular season, the snaps have been 80-20. That makes it hard for a freshman to have a really good feel for the offense.
Of course, he also wouldn’t say if the practice snap count for Utah football will change this week, as that would obviously tip off whether the Utes expect their start QB back for the game against Utah State.
