Utah football has Cam Rising ready to go just ahead of Oklahoma State game

While Rising was considered a gametime decision, he's taken the reps in pregame and will start for the Utah football team.

The “will he or won’t he” soap opera for Utah football appears to have come to an end. After spending the beginning of the week with the Utes believing Cam Rising would start their Big 12 conference opener, some doubt arose on Friday.

Reports started surfacing that it was actually freshman quarterback Isaac Wilson who was taking most of the snaps for the Utes from Wednesday on. While Kyle Whittingham doesn’t give health updates, Wilson taking starter reps seemed to indicate that Rising might not be quite all the way back.

However, according to Josh Furlong, the situation was finally decided just ahead of the opening kick for Utah football’s showdown against Oklahoma State. During pregame warmups, he was very clearly working out as though he was the starter.

There is a bit of a wrinkle that will be interesting to watch as the game unfolds. Just as he did last week, Rising will be wearing a glove on his injured throwing hand.

Utah football will have Cam Rising back for Oklahoma State game

Because he never actually appeared in the game, it was unknown just how much that glove might help or hamper his throwing the football.

We’re going to find out on Saturday afternoon.

The tilt against the Cowboys has long been billed as a matchup between two of the biggest contenders for the Big 12 conference title. That’s especially the case with another of those contenders, Kansas, seemingly falling back to the pack a bit.

The Utah football team will need a healthy Cam Rising who is plenty sharp in order ot knock off the Cowboys in Stillwater.
