There’s a reason why the Utah football team is excited to have Cam Rising back. His coach is excited to see how he performs against Southern Utah in his first game action since 2022. But Rising also has some things to prove.
While there are those who believe the Utes quarterback has been mentioned as a dark horse Heisman contender, he’s also got some interesting weapons. Chief among those is Dorian Singer, who had 66 catches for Arizona back in 2022. Those numbers decreased for USC last season, but the Utes are hoping he can return to form. He might be able to to that especially thanks to Rising being around.
While Rising will continue to try and rise in the ranks in the Big 12, it’s clear he’s got some work to do to prove he’s all the way back. Especially if his head coach is telling the truth about taking away a big part of his game and not running as much as Rising did in the past.
Utah football quarterback rank is a bit surprising in Big 12
Pro Football Focus recently released its rankings of Big 12 quarterbacks. Not surprisingly, Cam Rising was near the top of the list.
However, there is a bit of a surprise that he’s not higher. Rising is ranked No. 6 by PFF. That has him below Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders, Arizona’s Noah Fifita, West Virginia’s Garrett Greene, Kansas’ Jalon Daniels and UCF’s KJ Jefferson.
Granted, that’s an impressive list. But should Rising have the kind of season that has him as a dark horse Heisman candidate, then he should shoot up that list.
You can check out the full list above and see how the Utah football star shakes out versus the rest of his new conference. Most notably, BYU’s Jake Retzlaff is dead last. Always nice to see the Utes’ most bitter rival fielding a quarterback expected to be the worst of 16 starting signal-callers.
