The Utah football season is almost here! Week 0 is in full swing and that means the Utes are just about ready to gear up and take on Southern Utah next Thursday night.

Ahead of the game that will mark the return of Cam Rising, head coach Kyle Whittingham has issued the official depth chart for his team’s first game of the season. On occasion, this can be an exciting time of year, because fans get to see surprise players on the two-deep.

That really isn’t the case when it comes to Utah football though. There isn’t any kind of quarterback battle with Rising returning. Whittingham even announced that Isaac Wilson was going to be the backup long before this depth chart came out. But the lack of intrigue is actually a good thing, considering it means that the Utes players know their role and are ready to do it.

Utah football depth chart shows consistency and a championship run imminent

That doesn’t mean there was no intrigue on the official depth chart. One position that has been the subject of much discussion this offseason is starting running back.

About 10 days ago, Whittingham made it clear that he didn’t feel as though anyone was really separating themselves. He added that Micah Bernard, Jaylon Glover, and Mike Mitchell were the guys who were the front-runners.

That’s how the depth chart shook out, with senior Bernard getting the start. Glover and true freshman Mitchell are listed as “co” No. 2 backs with that “or” meaning that either player might be the second guy to get in the game.

You can check out the entirety of the Utah football depth chart above, but for the most part, the biggest question with this official two-deep is just how much playing time will the backups like Wilson get on Thursday night.
