With a big win over the Oklahoma State Cowboys, the Utah football team officially solidified their spot in the college football playoffs this weekend as they now look like the odds-on favorite to win the Big 12.
This tilt was always seen as a way for the Utes to make a big statement. It was not only their first official Big 12 conference game, but was against a team that was considered one of the top contenders to win their conference themselves.
With the win, the Utah football team also jumped up a few spots in the new AP Poll. It had been hard to get much of a bump because they had been playing FCS and low level G5 teams up until Week 4. But now that they knocked off Mike Gundy's squad, it seems they are fimly in the field.
Sitting at No. 10 in the new rankings, the Utes are in the position they need to be in order to have a first round bye. That is of course, the goal, as Kyle Whittingham and company want to sit back and watch other teams fight each other in the first round of the college football playoffs.

Unfortunately at the moment, even though they did jump into the Top 10, the fact that Miami just keeps winning, they're still sitting behind the Hurricanes, as well as Texas and Ohio State for seeding purposes.
Still, Utah football has to like how the season has played out so far. Especially since Cam Rising has only played 1.5 games.
