The Utah football team is off to a 3-0 start despite the fact that Cam Rising had to miss the Utes' latest outing. Despite going with their backup quarterback, the team was able to stay in the playoff picture.

There was a time when Isaac Wilson looked like his performance might sink Kyle Whittingham's squad. However, the College Football Playoffs are still calling and the Big 12 team still looks like the most likely choice for the field.

The Utah football team will make a real statement about making the playoffs this weekend. In fact, it's possible this is the big shot. The Utes will face off against Oklahoma State and it sure feels like the winner has the inside shot at the Big 12 title.

For now, the Utes look like the team. They've got an offense, they've got a defense and they've got a coach who knows how to carry them to the next level. And of course, for now, they're high enough in the AP Top 25 that they should be getting in. And could do so even with a loss if everything else shakes out ok.

At the moment, the Utah football team is the only Big 12 squad I have making the playoffs based off the way things are shaking out so far after Week 3. The good news here is that they will get a double bye, even if they did fall one spot from the 3-seed to 4-seed thanks to some less than blowout wins over inferior opponents.

We're about a quarter of the way through the regular season and the College Football Playoffs are officially rumbling down the railroad tracks. Not long now until we see the first 12-team field and see what teams are the best competitors for the National Title.
