There will be a lot of excitement surrounding the Utah football team in 2024, thanks in no small part to Cam Rising's return. However, there’s also a ton of optimism simply because many think the Utes can win the Big 12 and get into the 12-team playoffs as a rather high seed.
If that happens, then so can anything else.
“Anything” in this regard is the Utah football team winning the National Championship. And it appears that vegas oddsmakers believe Kyle Whittingham’s squad have a decent shot. In fact, it’s quite a bit better than it was earlier this year.
Utah football has decent odds to win the ‘Ship
According to Utah beat writer Josh Furlong, one set of oddsmakers in particular are becoming bigger fans of the Utes all the time. Referencing BetOnline, Furlong reported that Utah went from 66-to-1 odds in January to win the whole thing to half that, 33-to-1 odds now.
If that movement isn’t enough to make you raise your eyebrows, the fact that Cam Rising and company are now seen as having the 11th best odds to win the National Title in the country might get you there.
While that movement was large, it wasn’t the largest in the Big 12. Arizona and Oklahoma State have those honors. Unfortunately for them, both teams’ odds got worse.
The Wildcats were tied with Utah at 66-to-1 and are now 250-to-1.
The Cowboys are only slightly better than their new Big 12 rival. OSU was also 66-to-1 back in January. They are now 200-to-1 to win the title.
None of this means a whole lot in the grand scheme of things. The games still need to be played on paper. But it’s nice to see the Utah football team getting some Vegas love.
