The Utah football team finally has its very senior star quarterback for the 2024 campaign. Once it was clear that Cam Rising was healthy, naming him the starter for the Utes was just a formality.

However, things aren't as clear for some of the Utes' conference rivals. That's one reason Kyle Whittingham's crew is expected to win the Big 12. They've got more consistency and veteran leadership than quite a few of their new rivals.

However, at least one of Utah football's opponents will have a veteran quarterback of their own. He's just not a veteran of the team he'll be playing for in 2024.

Arizona State is hoping that the Big 12 will be a nice fresh start for a program that's fallen on hard times of late. In order to get their fresh state, they're turning former Michigan State quarterback Sam Leavitt to begin the 2024 campaign.

The Sun Devils announced he won the starting job. However, it obviously was a bit of an expected move, considering he joined ASU through the transfer portal this offseason for the express purpose of starting in Tempe.

Last year, the former 4-star quarterback prospect saw limited time with Michigan State. In four appearances, he completed 15-of-23 passes for 139 yards, 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. He also hurt opposing defenses with his legs, carrying the ball 13 times for 67 yards.

His most impactful outing came against the Nebraska Cornhuskers last year. He threw just two passes against the Huskers but completed a 25-yard touchdown pass that ended up being the game-winner. Utah football will hope to avoid a similar fate when they face off against Arizona State on October 11.
