With the Utah football team and BYU back in the same conference, it’s time to start the Holy War back up. The rivalry between the Utes and the Cougars that dates back to the 1920s was put on the hold the last few seasons but now for the first time since 2021, the two teams will face off.

And as it turns out, there is still no love lost between the two fanbases, especially now that they’re both in the Big 12 and that was especially displayed earlier this week when some Brigham Young fans took things a little too far.

In fact, there were at least some BYU fans that were posted on social media and message boards who were actively rooting for Utah football players to get hurt. And not just in the game between the two rivals but right at the start of the season.

BYU fans rooting for Utah football players to get injured

One Utah Utes twitter account known as Cheese Fries rounded up some of the very worst BYU fan takes from around the web and posted what they called just a sampling.

Among that sampling was a post from from one Cougars fan that read:

“Predicting Utah’s season. [Cam] Rising blows his Achilles his first play, out for season. In this depressed state they get to drinking and driving after the opener and more that team goes to jail for that.”

The rest of the post was clearly more joking than not, but you do have to wonder about people who are rooting for the Utes’ starting quarterback getting hurt right away, especially since he missed the entirety of the 2023 season due to injury.

Another user posted “I’m doubly fasting and praying they get all the injuries haha.”

It’s pretty clear that things are already getting ugly between the Cougars and the Utes. As the season really gets going. As the two teams roll towards each other, it’s only going to get worse.

When BYU eventually loses to the Utah football team, things are only going to get worse. But it won’t matter as Kyle Whittingham and company will have “scoreboard.”
