Utah Utes Football: Preview and Prediction for Oregon St.
Editors Note: I started a preview and prediction for each Utah game and then got away from it after a series of holidays. Here are links to the previous six and the preview and prediction for Oregon St.
In case you missed them:
Game One: Utah Vs Northern Colorado August 30, 2012
Game Two: Utah at Utah St. September 7, 2012
Game Three: Utah vs BYU September 15, 2012
Game Four: Utah at Arizona St. September 22, 2012
Game Five: Utah vs USC October 4, 2012
Game Six: Utah at UCLA October 13, 2012
Oregon St. University is the Oregon school that is not a wholly owned subsidiary of Nike. And I’m going to take a minute and say it must be hard as hell to be the rival of friggin Oregon. I mean we’re BYU’s rival and they kind of have a budget that is whatever it needs to be. But BYU is also full of really really cheap bastards. If BYU was simply building whatever crazy expensive thing they wanted with the coolest new everything, I’d lose my crap. So instead of making fun of Oregon St. here, I’ll simply give my sympathies.
Where are the Utes heading to Corvalis?
Yes people will accuse me of having crimson colored glasses on but I fully believe if the Utes stay healthy, they will be undefeated at this point in the season. But I must as always put on the qualifier that Jordan Wynn must stay healthy. Utah will come in to Corvalis after winning in the Rose Bowl in a lackluster manner coming off the big win versus UCLA.
So What is Going to Happen?
This is where the Pac-12 is far more interesting than the MWC. In the MWC you got to have a week against New Mexico or UNLV. In the Pac-12 you get Oregon St. The Beavers are another team that has talent, in fact I should just stop saying that, all the Pac-12 teams have talent. The Beavers did have a crap load of bad luck and injuries last season. It would seem they’ll be better this year. But it’s hard to see them improving enough to keep pace.
The Oregon St. defense will keep them in the game early. But I don’t think the offense has enough playmakers to deal with what by this time is a shockingly talented Utah defense. With Utah having a very talented backfield of John White IV and Kelvin York, and Wynn staying healthy, I believe you’ll see a continuing theme of an efficient Utah offense wearing down defenses.
I think this could be close to the end for Mike Reilly in Corvalis.
Another close at the half game is put away by Utah late in the third/early in the fourth quarter.
