Utah Utes Football: Preview and Prediction for USC
Editors Note: I started a preview and prediction for each Utah game and then got away from it after a series of holidays. Here are links to the previous four and the preview and prediction for USC.
In case you missed them:
Game One: Utah Vs Northern Colorado August 30, 2012
Game Two: Utah at Utah St. September 7, 2012
Game Three: Utah vs BYU September 15, 2012
Game Four: Utah vs Arizona St. September 22, 2012
The University of Southern California or the real USC according to the courts (as much as that pisses off those Gamecocks) is located in the City of the Angels. The women who attend USC aspire to be trophy wives. The men aspire to have rockin’ abs, an awesome ride and a trophy wife. They are also very proud to have made it all the way to USC on their own and are certain it had nothing to do with daddy being rich and powerful.
As for their football team, they’re very very good, it’s as if they were the best money could buy. It’s possible I might have to acknowledge Lane Kiffin might be a good coach, although I’m certain he’s still a douche bag.
However as I said, their team can play. And since the bowl sanctions are off and the scholarship sanctions are a season away from beginning to hurt the Trojans, I will say that this is really has to be their year. Matt Barkley returns with too many weapons to count on offense. On defense the Trojans return with eight starters. I haven’t looked but I’m guessing even their kicking game is good.
But Utah is nothing to sneeze at (provided we stay healthy at QB and in general, we’re still a year or two away from having the depth we want). We went toe to toe with USC in what was a three point game (until the Pac-12 awarded USC a touchdown hours after the game). We’ve got a defense that can handle anything and some weapons on offense of our own.
To tell you the truth I don’t know how this is going to go. The smart decision is to go with USC here. But I just have a feeling, honestly one I haven’t had since 2008 that Utah is due in a big game and has all the pieces for a very big season.
It will be a close game, Utah scores late to win it, the fans flood the field at Rice-Eccles and Saturday night everyone will be discussing the new team in the national title hunt.
