Ironically, while the Utah football team has a bit of a quarterback controversy due to an injury, one of the Utes’ former stars could be starting next Sunday because of his own teammate’s having to sit out. It’s been a long while since Tyler Huntley was starting in Salt Lake City. It hasn’t been that long since Huntley had to step into an NFL starting job because of injury.

This time around, the former Ute be handling the snaps for the Miami Dolphins in their next game. He may be getting the call because the ‘Fins could be down to their third quarterback.

The Dolphins are already out Tua Tagovailoa due to a concussion he suffered a few weeks back. This past weekend, backup Skylar Thompson was hurt as well. And earlier this week, Miami head coach Mike McDaniel said the former Utah football might get the start.

“Dolphins HC Mike McDaniel said it also was “a possibility, for sure” that Tyler Huntley would be Miami’s starting QB on Monday night vs. the Titans,” Adam Schefter reported on Twitter.

Huntley is in his first season with Miami after spending his first four NFL seasons with the Baltimore Ravens. In those four seasons he’s gotten enough playing time that the Fins might see him as a kind of veteran backup.

Huntley has played in 20 games, throwing for 1,957 yards, completing 64 percent of his passes and notching 8 touchdown passes to 7 interceptions. He’s also run for just over 500 yards in those 20 games.

For the Utah football team, Huntley showed his ability to hurt opponents through the air and on the ground. Over his career, he had more than 7,000 yards 46 touchdowns and 20 interceptions. He also ran for just over 1,100 yards and 16 touchdowns.
