In 1992, Rick Majerus, fresh off of returning from both septuple bypass heart surgery and returning to the Utes to go 30-4 and make a run to the Sweet Sixteen, was promised by Athletic Director Dr. Chris Hill a basketball practice and training facility.
In typical Utah fashion, 22 years and three coaches and two interim coaches later, Utah is breaking ground on the Jon and Karen Huntsman Basketball Center. Follow that link if you’d like to take a look. And this link takes you to a description of the facility.
Go to the Universities and the Athletic Departments, Twitter accounts if you’d like to see photos from the ceremony. (@uutah) (@utahathletics)
And if you’d like to see a stream, well screw you there isn’t one.
Utah had fallen significantly behind not having one of these facilities and it is a very good thing that it’s finally being built. Now if we could only have a new arena to match.
Today is a good day.
