Utah Utes Basketball Sign Austrian Jakob Poeltl

Utah Utes Basketball and Larry Krystkowiak add to an already rich recruiting class by signing Austrian center Jakob Poeltl.  The kid is a 7 footer with a lot of wing span.

Oddly I had a conversation with an in the know guy who says that while Poeltl isn’t prime time ready, he has massive upside.

So lets be honest about that this kid will and won’t be.

He won’t start from day one and may not see a ton of minutes next year.  Although with our bigs being inconsistent who knows.  Let’s clarify that with, best case is he shouldn’t see a lot of minutes.  In a few years he could have real NBA potential.

Also there could be a real concern he’ll return to Europe and go pro if he doesn’t like things, more than many Euros.

Also people are going to say the following statement, Utah beat out Cal and Arizona.  That is not true.  Arizona went with 7 ft Serbian Dusan Rustic.  Also Cal stopped recruiting him when Cuonzo Martin was hired as head coach and he brought Kingsley Okoroh along with him.  That isn’t an attack on Poeltl or that I’m down on the attack, I just dislike it when fans or a voice of the Utes feel the need to say patently untrue things like that.

But rejoice Ute fans, the kid is a player.  Today is a good day.

No need for your AK.
