Well that will teach me to auto-post.
So I wrote an article about Larry being a candidate for the Cal job, but instead of posting yesterday, I went to the USA-Mexico Soccer match and set it to post this morning. Well as it turns out, Larry is signing a new five year deal at Utah, locking him in till 2019.
We’ll here more about the terms soon, but I’m going to say, this is a really bad idea.
And before you start calling me names., let me ask you a simple question. Do you think the folks in Seattle are pumped to be locked into Lorenzo Romar until 2020 or that Oregon St. being been unable to fire Craig Robinson because he was locked in until 2017?
I don’t understand any extension before an NCAA tournament. I would get one year in this case. I would even understand two years although I wouldn’t agree with it. But three more years plus the two he was under contract for?
Just terrible thinking by the Utah athletic administration and boosters.
The thing about basketball, is that teams can be rebuilt very quickly. They can also fall apart very quickly. So lets hope that things go like we’re all dreaming they will next year, because if they don’t, well we’re on the hook for a long time.
