As people have pointed out, we’ll have seven QB’s on the roster this year and that number will swell to nine next year. So I thought I’d take a moment to make some predictions about what will happen
Here are the nine QB’s
- Travis Wilson
- Kendal Thompson
- Brandon Cox
- Connor Manning
- Adam Schulz
- Micah Thomas
- Jason Thompson
- Donovan Isom
- Chase Hansen
First I think Adam Schulz will transfer to an FCS school. If Jay Hill is smart, he goes and gets Schulz to Weber St. As Dan Sorensen said, Schulz would be the best QB they’ve had since Jamie Martin and would likely get them to the playoffs. That takes us to eight.
Jason Thompson and Micah Thomas will almost certainly change positions. Remember Jason Thompson was originally a Washington commit as a safety before he found a chance to play QB at Wyoming. Thomas isn’t a great passer but is a heck of an athlete. He’ll play somewhere else. That makes six.
The Manning/Cox battle will be interesting. If Manning turns out to be the better QB. Cox will likely move positions as well. If it’s Cox, Manning will likely transfer. The reason I don’t count Manning out of this is he is similar in size and story to Chase Daniels who was a star in Dave Christiansen’s offense at Missouri. Either way, that gets us down to five.
Now an unanswered question will be, what does Chase Hansen look like after his mission. Recall that he had a shoulder issue that forced him to go from possible playing time to a redshirt. If that isn’t better a position change could be in the works there. Either that or a QB Battle could be in the offing there. That might get us to four and four or five is a pretty normal number of QB’s for a BCS school to have.
Not to mention what will be fascinating in the fall to watch between Travis Wilson and Kendal Thompson. Before you question Kendal, remember he’s been in a similar offense in Oklahoma and go watch this video. He is a player.
And I love Travis too.
Plus Travis’ health plus the addition of Kendal allow Donovan Isom to redshirt.
It’s just nice to finally have options at the QB position. And the spring and fall should be interesting.
