So as most of you know, the cat is out of the bag that Oklahoma QB Kendal Thompson is transferring and Utah is on his short list. If you care, here is an article on that exact subject.
The reasons for this are pretty simple. If Travis Wilson does not return, Utah has a tough situation on their hands. They are not without talent at the QB position but all of it is young talent, either redshirt freshmen Manning or Cox or true freshman Donovan Isom.
Thompson would have two years to play two and since he is graduating, he could play right away. He was a three star recruit out of high school. He sat behind Landry Jones this year and would have been in the mix for starter this year but a broken foot put him out of fall camp. Trevor Knight emerged as a player in the bowl game and that is Thompson’s story.
Also he is the son of Charles Thompson, the guy who essentially brought down Barry Switzer. Click on the link if you’d like to read his story.
What I don’t get is that there are some Utah fans who are being pissy about this, and for the life of me I don’t understand why. The Utes could have a highly recruited upper classman QB fall into their laps, and this bothers some people.
If Wilson doesn’t return, Thompson would solve a lot of problems for us. He’s spent a few years learning a similar offense. He is athletic and can do things with his feet. And he doesn’t force us to run a freshman out there. Hell even if Thompson doesn’t start, he would certainly make the team better.
So I don’t know how wide spread the anti-Kendal Thompson sentiment is, and I hope its a small minority, all of whom choose to argue with me. But please point out all of the positives to these idiots. It probably won’t help, but at least you tried, and sometimes that is all you can do.
