For the first time all season, I’m truly pleased with the Utah Utes Basketball Squad. They’ve won before yes. But, the Arizona St. Sun Devils aren’t and Division II or bad Division I team. And we didn’t go out and shoot some crazy percentage on offense. We went out and played basketball, came back from a deficit, hit big shots, played smart and did what normal basketball teams do. Honestly, it might be the first time that has happened in the Larry era.
And isn’t it a little extra nice to beat Arizona St. Come on, admit it.
Now let’s hand out some props. Jason Washburn, who spent much of his career maligned by Ute fans, explodes for a career high 26 points and adds in 9 boards. Jason has lit up Arizona St. this year. Brandon Taylor didn’t look awesome most of the game but came up with huge points down the stretch. And Dubois got position, drew a charge on Jahii Carson which both fouled out the freshman phenom and sealed the game for the ol’ Runnin Utes.
Last night was straight up a fun win. And I won’t bore you all with what does this mean. We all know this team needs some damn consistency for it to mean anything.
But this has been a great week for Ute fans everywhere. We’ve had a gymnast with a perfect 10, then on to Dennis Erickson breathing an alcohol scented breath of fresh air into the football team and then our basketball team looking like a basketball team. So lets all go out, get our significant others some chocolates, flowers and something sexy so they’ll do the real naughty stuff this Valentine’s night.
Because it’s been a depressing year as Ute fans and we all deserve this.
