Utah State Aggies: All You Ever Need to Know

facebooktwitterreddit

Utah State University or the Utah Institute of Sheep as it was originally known was founded in 1888 in Logan, Utah.

Logan is an old Native American word that means, “what is that smell?”

Utah State has 28,000 students, 26,000 of which believe they are at BYU-Idaho.

In fact Utah St. has a long history of believing they are BYU light.  Right up until they conspired with BYU to destroy the Mountain West Conference.  That conspiracy led to the destruction of the WAC and had several teams not ended up leaving the MWC, probably would have put Utah St. football right where Idaho is.  BYU pretends this never happened.

The Utah-Utah St. game is known as the Battle of the Brothers, although it’s pretty much a complete rout.  They’d changed it but Utah St.’s Annual Asskicking doesn’t quite roll off the tongue as well.

From 1965-71 Utah St. won 9 of 12, that is the only period of dominance by Utah St. in this rivalry.

Utah has won 12 straight and 22 of 25.

Utah St.’s coach is Gary Anderson, former defensive coordinator for Utah.  Gary has to be hoping for one more decent season and then he can get the hell out of Logan.  There is probably an opening coming in Corvalis, OR with his name on it.

Aggie Fans have odd delusions of grandeur.  They think of their basketball program as dominant when its pretty much .500 against Utah during our worst period ever.  Now they’ve won seven football games and are talking about beating the Utes.  I have missed this, the annual proclamation from Aggie fans that this was the year was the real sign that football season had arrived.  Utah St. got so bad for awhile that they stopped doing it.

Utah St. fans do this weird milking motion during their fight song.  I’m told its because their fight song is Scottish in origin and Utah St. was almost the Highlanders.  This would have made Utah St. cooler by an order of magnitude.

And finally, this may be Utah’s final trip to Logan for a long time.  Utah St. is demanding home and home’s and that just ain’t going to happen.  Times they are a changin.  If you haven’t, eat at Maddox’s in Brigham City.

And that is all you need to know.
