Utah Football: The Future of The Battle of The Brothers…
Utah’s trip to Logan may be the last trip to Logan for a very long time if ever.
Both Utah and Utah State have new scheduling restrictions because of nine game conference schedules. On top of that Utah has additional considerations which have to include moving to at least seven home games a season and preferably eight for revenue reasons. Considering all of that, there isn’t a much room for a trip to Logan.
For Utah St. and Utah to continue this rivalry, Utah St. is going to have to accept Utah’s new reality and give, that means 2 for 1 or 3 for 1. Utah St. has already given 2 for 1’s to BYU (and for some reason always feels the need to be BYU’s prison wife) and is making noise like they aren’t willing to do the same for the Utes.
Personally, I’m not sure how I feel about needing to maintain the Battle of the Brothers. Utah has won 12 straight, 18 of 20 and 22 of 25. Is it really possible for this rivalry to ever be competitive again?
On the other hand, I’ve been in favor of ending the BYU rivalry for awhile and if Utah St. were to come to Utah with a deal saying seven at Utah and three at Utah St. over the next 10 years, and we put them in BYU’s slot, well I’d be in favor of that.
But since Utah St. is unlikely to do that, we’re probably making our last trip to Logan. So I hope everyone enjoy that wonderful aroma that hits you when you enter the Cache Valley, because who knows the next time we’ll get to smell cow crap again.
