Ute Thoughts Now That I’m Back
Hey Kids…
I’m back from a vacation to San Diego before we head into the craziness in the fall. Some things about my vacation. The 2 year old got sick half way into our first day while we’re at Sea World. But he managed to rally. Some other Points
– The Sandbar at Mission Beach/Belmont Park has the best Mahi Mahi tacos I’ve ever had in my life.
– Women of San Diego, thank you for existing.
– The Zoo still rocks after all these years. I think if I lived there I’d go three times a week.
– And people of America, you’re starting to make me feel thin, we all need to mix in a salad or two.
But lets move to the Utes.
Julian Jacobs has de-committed from the Hooping Utes. This is a massive blow to Larry and JuJu was the only guy we had who might turn out to be a star. So unless we land something more than a JC mercenary right quick, I don’t see how this era is going to end well. I know the Larry lovers are touching themselves over all the Utah kids. But here is the reality, when was the last time a Utah kid was a true star? How many Utah kid jerseys hang from the rafters?
We’re starting year two of Project Larry. Year three won’t have a high school star it turns out either. Which means year four, the year you have to extend or fire might be the first year we could have some young superstar talent.
As for football…
It looks like the story line for year two is going to have some similar themes as year one did, specifically injuries and depth on the O-Line. We lost Junior Salt to a broken foot and others continue to get banged up.
A couple of schools we know, specifically BYU and USC are moving away from so much hitting in the fall. Both are doing it for the same reason, depth, USC because of sanctions and BYU because they just don’t have the talent. The NFL isn’t hitting a lot either. And while I hate to agree with Bronco on something, I think its time Utah consider this as well.
We’re already holding out the stars anyway, maybe its time we limit the hitting of most of the first string.
Just a Thought.
