Utah Utes Football: The Season Will Be Decided In October…

Whether we’re smelling Roses or the BCS title game, all the way down to something horribly sad like Las Vegas will be determined in the month of October.

We have three road games surrounding the biggest game ever to come to Rice Eccles Stadium.

At Arizona State
Home vs USC
At UCLA
At Oregon St.

Now there is now doubt that the three road games are should wins for the Utes.  Two of those schools have new coaches and lots of question marks and Oregon St. will likely be looking for a coach when the season comes to an end.

But as we learned against Colorado last season, the Pac-12 is big boy football, there are no New Mexico’s or UNLV’s here.  So it means a couple of things need to happen.

1. We have to go down and take care of business against Arizona St.  Utah doesn’t have a great history against the Sun Devils.  However last years game gets an asterisk in my mind.  With Jon Hays just beginning to start, we wouldn’t have had a shot against anyone.  We need Jordan Wynn to stay healthy in the worst way.

2. Win or lose against USC we can’t have a let down at UCLA.  While I don’t think they’ll be contenders this year, they can’t simply be overlooked.

3. Don’t let arrogance take over against Oregon St.  Like I said, we learned this lesson last year, no one is New Mexico here.

If we come out of that stretch 3-1 or incredibly 4-0, this will be a great season.  Dropping one of those four games could be a serious problem.
