Utah Football: Time to Grow Up Ute Fans

facebooktwitterreddit

The folks at the ESPN Pac-12 blog, this time specifically Kevin Gemmell, write about what is Utah’s most important game of the season.

And Mr. Gemmell is 100% correct in saying it’s USC and not BYU.  Plus for Utah, that it’s not only the most important game of the season, it may in fact be the most important regular season game in the history of Utah Football.  Can anyone think of another that might come close?

USC will come to Rice-Eccles Stadium ranked either #1 or very very close to #1.  Utah will almost certainly be 4-0 and have a climbing ranking in their own right.  If Utah wins this game, doesn’t that put us a rainy trip to Seattle and a Pac-12 title game we’d likely host away from a trip to the national title game.  The stage will never be bigger than it will be that Thursday night.

The last Holy War by comparison will be a joke, an afterthought of a game, hardly more important than the week before in Logan.

So instead of the continued whining over what may come of BYU (and I’ve been as guilty as anyone) lets set our sights on the truly big game, the game that could take Utah to a place no one would have dreamed of a decade ago.

Let’s all put on our big boy panties and realize what matters.

Time to put away childish things.
