The Frilly Bow: Edition II

Welcome to the Frilly Bow, where we here at the corner tie up the week with a nice Frilly Bow.

– The new Washington St. site here at fansided.com (All Coug’d Up) is doing a breakdown each of the next 12 weekends of the upcoming football season.  The Arizona Wildcats are first and here is their breakdown.

I discussed how as of right now the BYU-Utah rivalry is dead.  I don’t say it to belittle BYU as much fun as that is but just because the two teams won’t have much affect on each other anymore.  And if we’re honest we can already feel it slipping away.

– We learned three pieces of basketball information this week.  The first is that the Utes are targeting the talented but well traveled Givon Crump.  Second, Kareem Storey, Javon Dawson and senior Chris Hines are departing.  And third we signed a tiny PG from Pacific Hills in LA named Brandon Taylor.  Taylor is probably 5′ 8″.

– Finally I was able to post some wicked awesome Utah Spring Football footage to youtube.  And I lamented how everything is going so well, even according to the coaches, that there isn’t much to write about.

So what does it all mean?  Well this was a bit of a light week for Utah Football with no scrimmage this weekend.  We have one scrimmage and the spring game left.  But it doesn’t look like there is going to be anything earth shattering, Let’s hope for no injuries.

Ute Hoops continues its third annual blood bath.  I guess I continue to be in the minority of all things Ute Hooop but we’ve now run 13 guys in two seasons and we’re trying very hard to make sure the only guys who saw minutes last year that will see minutes this year are Jason Washburn and David Foster.  That just feels wrong to me.

My second issue, is we’re landing a whole ton of guys whose best offers were from places like Loyola Marymont.  And if we were in the WCC, I’d guess shooting for middle of the pack would be exciting, but we’re not.  But we’re in the Pac-12.  Where Arizona has the best class in the land.  Where UCLA has a very good one and will be close to Arizona if they land Shabazz Muhammed.  Where Washington, Stanford and Oregon all have significantly better classes than us.  So we’ve gone to a whole lotta trouble to not really get any better.  And on top of it, because Larry has run 16 guys in two seasons, he doesn’t get another shot at this.  Does NIT/edge of the NCAA if the Pac-12 is very good get Larry an extension or are we doing this all again in 3 seasons?

And what about anyone we have now, in fact even if we land Givon Crump, gives anyone the feeling that we’ll break into the top for of the Pac-12?  Because I’d really like to hear it.
