Chris Hines Needs A Nickname (But Where Does He Fit Next Year)

We need to call him something really cool…

Last season Hines hits a bank shot in the Pit to beat New Mexico.

This season an off balance fade-a-way three with a guy in his face to beat Stanford.  (BTW I haven’t lived in SLC for a while, who are these douchbag sports guys on KTVX channel 4?)

For a guy Ute fans have spent a couple of seasons trashing and that Larry had the instinct to run, he certainly has come up big a couple of times.  In fact probably two of three best memories of the last 3 seasons of Utah Hoops are from Mr. Hines. (Thanks for the buzzer beater vs Wazzu Jiggy, you’ll be missed)

Which leads me to a question, where does he fit in on next years team?

Glen Dean didn’t turn his back on his recommitment to Eastern Washington to come to Utah to play behind Chris Hines.  Aaron Dotson also isn’t at Utah to sit.  Promises have been made.

So where does that leave Hines.  With Dean and Dotson almost certainly playing 30+ next season even if Hines is the primary back up at the 1 and 2, that would come to no more than 15 or so minutes per game.

After playing 36 minutes per game, is that something Hines would accept.

Hines should graduate in the spring (the new staff were insistent he and Washburn finish their degrees in case there would be no room at the inn).  One would think he could head some place like Weber and be a serious player for them.

I don’t think anyone could blame him if he decided he wanted to play more somewhere else his senior year.

But he’s provided the two best memories in the last three seasons of Utah Hoops and for that he deserves our thanks, our admiration and I think a nickname.
