Ray Giacolletti Thoughts…
This is a bit of a short post today, just something to think about.
I don’t know if Ute fans hate many people who were actually a Ute more than Ray Giacolletti. In fact I think many of Boylen’s problems come from people attributing things that happened under Ray to Jim Boylen. I’m not even sure people realize they were different people.
Now I’m not here to defend Ray. Just to point out some things.
The news came out today that Chris Jones is a finalist for the Idaho St. job. Although with the job the interim guy as done, it would be hard to believe he wouldn’t get it. But if Jones does get the job it will mean all three of Giac’s assistants are current head coaches.
Second, Ute fans at the time claimed that his guys were awful. But they were good enough to win a title under Jim Boylen.
Third, if Giac had gotten Patty Mills, A.J. Ogilvy and Nathan Jawai, all of whom we’re probably ours, we just might have made another final four run.
There are several down things about Giac’s time at Utah as well and those have been debated to death. But at the end of the day it seems a great deal of good came out of it. How many college coaches have three assistants who now have head jobs. His tree is bigger than Rick Majerus’.
Just some food for thought.
