This Week in Real College Basketball
Its been a few weeks since we checked in with the three teams we’ve chosen to follow in lieu of watching bad Utah basketball. Well, Utah basketball is still ugly but we’ve forced the other teams to play ugly so we’re staying in games. So we’ve got that going for us which is nice.
As for the other teams we’re following
Saint Louis- (RPI 54 SOS 163) When last we checked in with the Majerus coached Billikins they were headed to the ABQ with only a loss at Loyola Marymont. Well since then things have been ugly for the Billikins. They lost to the Lobos and have dropped two of their first three to open A-10 play including a home loss to Dayton. It will be interesting to see if Rick can get the shine back on the Billikins.
UC Santa Barbara- (RPI 79 SOS 15) The Gauchos have five losses but they have come to UNLV, SDSU, Cal, Washington and BYU. They have opened Big West play with two wins and it looks as if they’ll battle Long Beach St (coached by Dan Monson, another guy I wish we’d called about the Utah job) for the Big West title.
Gonzaga- (RPI-8 SOS-11) Since losing to Illinois and Michigan St., the Zags have had a series of nice wins over Oral Roberts, Arizona, Butler and Xavier not to mention opening up WCC play with three blow out wins. If you don’t know the names Kyle Pangos, Gary Bell Jr. and Sam Dower, learn them, they are two freshmen and a sophomore and are a stunningly bright future for the Zags. Watch tonight as they head to St. Mary’s.
