This Week in Actual College Hoops…
As always this column is to let people follow real basketball teams and not have to deal with what is going on at Utah. Those teams as always are, UCSB Gauchos, Saint Louis U. Billikins and the Gonzaga Bulldogs.
UCSB- When last we visited, UCSB had just lost a 2OT thriller to UNLV. Considering all schools are in finals, they had one game, a win over San Diego 65-61. Jaime Serma had 22 to make up for a lack of scoring from their big guns Orlando Jones and James Nunnaly. UCSB battles Washington on Friday night.
Saint Louis- Rick had his typical exam week patsy in Illnois-Springfield. SLU won by 10 and considering they probably practiced that morning, its an expected level of victory. Kwami Mitchell led all scorers with 22. The typical Majerus schedule continues as they face Alabama St.
Gonzaga- Mark Few continued Gonzaga’s tradition of a tough non-conference schedule as they welcomed Michigan St. to the Kennel. Former Michigan St coach Jud Heathcote is from Spokane and lives there so this has developed into a real game. Michigan St. won by 7. David Stockton led all scorers with 19. Gonzaga faces Oral Roberts on Thursday and then Arizona in Seattle.
