Yeah, Week In Week Out is for Real

I see the news this morning that Utah has lost a fourth player for the season in safety Keith McGill.  Something we all have to admit at this point is that there is something to this, “week in week out” stuff that always got thrown at us.

But I don’t think that the way they are using i.e. depth is the most difficult part of a BCS conference is the hardest part of week in week out.  Yeah we don’t have the depth of say Arizona St or USC (well when the sanctions take hold, we will).  But that sort of depth is only the function of being in a BCS conference, and in 3-4 years Utah will have that depth.  I think the big deal comes from always having to get up.

As a fan, I’m almost tired.  We had the BYU game which was almost amusing.  Then Washington comes and kicks our ass.  But instead of being able to get healthy against UNLV, we get Arizona St.  Utah follows that with trips across the country to Pitt and back to Cal.

Even the underbelly of our schedule, Oregon St., UCLA, Arizona, Wazzu and CU, we’re still going to have to bring it on some level, especially with a turrrrible QB.

So while I’ll look back at this first Pac-12 ride as a fun one regardless of how we finish (as long as we find a bowl).  Wow is it tiring.  But it beats knowing you’ve won 7-8 games before the season even starts.

I think to conclude this rambling opus, I would hit three points.

1. Yeah Year In Year Out is For Real
2. You shouldn’t use the depth issue against non-BCS teams, that comes with a function of being in a BCS conference.
3. Having to be up nearly every week is the more difficult issue.

And this is why I still question Boise St.  Imagine how easy it is to have a month to prepare for the only two games you have to get up for.
