Ute Mascot Likely Costing Us Money, Change Would Make Money

It’s late Friday night and the Red Rocks just failed to make the Super Six, but I thought this was worthy to get up.

A study from Emory University shows that Native American mascots are costing college and pro teams money.  Changing, while coming with a short term cost creates a long term windfall.

The gist of the argument is that the controversy has a cost while keeping the mascot doesn’t have any additional benefit.

I have to say that makes a hell of a lot of sense

This is a link to the Emory study.

And below is the segment from the Keith Olberman ESPN show.  I think its very worthwhile to listen to.

Interesting how stuff gets played out. I went on a road trip to vernal the other day from SLC and stopped at a shopping center ran by the UTE tribe I think it was called UTE trade and post. Anyway I had my utah ute hat on and they greeted me and kept talking about how they love that the U of U is named the UTES they thought it was cool. After that it changed my mind on things and I no longer think that every Indian has a problem with this.
