Travis Wilson Ball Tipped… End Of Days Near

I was reading Twitter for some practice report updates yesterday when two topics happened across my timeline.

One was about Gionni Paul’s broken foot which led to my rant about Gionni Paul and Utah Sports Radio that I posted last night.  Follow that link and check it out if you haven’t because I enjoyed writing it.  The other was about a pass Travis Wilson threw that was tipped at the line of scrimmage, popped in the air and was picked off.

Oh my did the Sports Radio dudes and the anti-Travis Wilson forces combine to nearly crash twitter with their glee.  Between this and the Gionni Paul injury, the last time Monty was this sexually excited was at his annual Broney convention (look it up if you don’t know).

The strangest part is that despite the Sports Radio guys claiming how often that happens and some Ute fans bemoaning that fact, one of the practice folks I trust told me he couldn’t even think of another incompletion from Travis yesterday, let alone a pick.  He said, “it was probably Travis’ best practice of the spring.”

We’ve covered this weird need that most Utah Sports Radio feels to always portray the Utes as being on the edge of collapse and reveling in any misfortune.  This sadly plays into too many Ute fans psyche that things are about to explode.  Maybe that comes from spending 20 years as BYU’s prison wife. I don’t know.

In any event, Utah Sports Radio has followed this blue print from day one and likely won’t change, because changing would require work or being better at your job.

(As a side note, I must say the true exception in the market is Hans Olsen.  I was as big a doubter as their was when Hans came to ESPN 700, but I was wrong.  The guy is doing the best work in the market.  He bothers to learn what the hell he’s talking about.  Honest to God he’s like a dream come true.  Yes, I’m admitting my mancrush on Hans Olsen, but lets all keep that our secret.)

But the anti-Travis Wilson forces among the Ute fan base are the stranger thing.  Of all the things wrong with the Ute offense over the last few years, how on earth are does anyone blame Travis Wilson.

When I think of Travis Wilson picks, I think of balls bouncing off of our own receivers hands in routes.  Also he hasn’t had great protection his entire time at Utah and spent half his games last year trying to throw with a bad hand.  What about all that makes people go, “DAMN WILSON SUCKS.”

I think what I’m hoping you people get out of all this, before you freak out at bad news, and at the end of the day that is what some folks want you to do, read a variety of sources.  Figure out who is trying to give you a real story and who is trying to play your emotions.

There are lots of news sources around, don’t base your belief on just one of them.
