HUMP DAY (come on you know you love that commercial too)

As Utah-Arizona St. approaches, it’s odd to think that just over 35 years ago, Utah v Arizona St. was a conference game.  Many of you kids probably have no idea that Arizona St. was a founding member of the Western Athletic Conference.

After two years in the Pac-12, I think I dislike ASU and Washington fans the most.  But for different reasons.  Washington fans have USC arrogance without earning it.  Arizona St. fans were the least welcoming when we joined the Pac-12.  I think it’s like a B list movie star, upset that their former assistant is now just as famous as them.  I have other reasons as well.  But none are as bad as Boise St. fans.

I like to think of myself as a bit of a college football historian, I mean after all how many of you wrote your senior history thesis on the history of the Western Athletic Conference.

So you have to wonder, if Wayne Howard just hadn’t burned out, if maybe Utah’s football history wouldn’t have been different.  Or maybe if Utah hadn’t just quit football in the early 70’s by hiring Tom Lovat.  But alas, Utah decided it wasn’t going to spend money and gave BYU 15 years of a head start.

Utah can win this Saturday, they really can, and damn aren’t we due against friggin’ Arizona St.

I am going to watch Arizona-UCLA Saturday night, if UA pulls the upset, I wonder how badly UCLA fans will freak out.

And to end this here are some Pac-12 South thoughts.  If UCLA and ASU did lose this weekend, it puts USC in the drivers seat for the Pac-12 South title.  But if USC loses to Stanford and UCLA, Arizona would only need to beat ASU, to make itself Pac-12 South Champions.

And those are some Random Hump Day Thoughts
