Utah Football: Scrimmage Report

facebooktwitterreddit

We’ve had our true scrimmage of the fall and it looks like our offense is coming alive.

The two best reports are the Kelvin York is taking charge and looks like he’s ready to be the man this year.  Also, the long talked about Anthony Denham is stepping up and that gives us three solid receivers.  If Andre Lewis can catch up, counting our two NFL level tight ends, things are looking much better.

Travis Wilson had a 50 yard TD pass before an ankle tweak forced him out of action.  It is nothing serious and he’ll be fine.  Kyle reaffirmed that it’s Travis’ job and the battle is for number two between Adam Schultz and Brandon Cox.

The other big piece of news is Mr. Connor Manning.  Yes it was against the 2nd team D, but the young man was 10-20 with 3 TD and that was with a couple of drops.  Although he almost certainly redshirts, it’s clear we have really do have QB talent for the future.

As for the defense.  Well the news was not as great.  First several starters set this one out for various reasons including Brian Blechen, although the story is the tendonitis is improving.  Keith McGill began to see his first action but he will be brought along slowly.  Overall it wasn’t a great day for the D, but these things ebb and flow.

Finally a name to remember for the future.  Dre’Vian Young.  Nearly ever practice report has singled this kid out for having both amazing speed and the shiftiness to make it count.
