Utah Utes Athletics- Shifting Gears…

Well now that we know the basketball season is over, in the coming days and weeks we’ll start the post-mortem on this season, talk about what went right and wrong.  We’ll also have to wait a few weeks to see what the roster looks like for next year before we start making predictions.  As I’ve said, if the O/U for more players leaving is 2 1/2 take the over.  More news on that later.

But now we start looking to the spring sports.  And first off is Utah Football.  Dennis Erickson has been brought in to help create and fine tune an explosive no-huddle extravaganza of an offense.  Travis Wilson hopefully will be the man at QB and go out this spring and show it.  We have a whole pile of offensive linemen that should make things better in that area as well.  Defense should also be more interesting as we look to make our squad more athletic.

It’s also time in Ute land for baseball and softball.  Both of these sports are very big deals in Pac-12 dom so I’m going to try to do a better job covering them here.  The Ping Utes baseball team stands at 8-9 after being swept by Cal.  And the Pinging Ute Softball squad is 13-10-1 but did have an 11 game streak without losing a game.

And finally we turn to gymnastics.  Things have been a bit uneven (haha) for the Red Rocks this season but the seem to be coming on late.  They just dominated Florida throwing up a monster score of 198.125.  They head to the Pac-12 championships this weekend.
