Utah Hoops: And Off To The Great Northwest…

Utah heads off to play the Washington schools.

And if we are to get a Pac-12 road win, that game will almost certainly have to come Wednesday night against Wazzu or February 6th against Oregon St.

To get a sense of the two schools, Wazzu is powered by the big Aussie Brock Motum.  He’s averaging 20 and 6, can both score down low and step out and hit a three from time to time.  Outside of that, there isn’t much else coming to the table for Wazzu.  They tend to be toughish at home and have a good student section if ZZUcrew is still showing up.

Washington we all know a little more about.  They are led in scoring by Utah’s own C.J. Wilcox, who was a Ute until the 11th hour.  They have 3 other seniors averaging in double figures as well.  It seemed like the Huskies might have been slipping this season and then they open the Pac-12 season 3-0 all on the road.

As for the Utes, well I’m of the opinion that this team has to start to show something for Larry.  A close loss to Arizona followed by being blown out by USC means your team sucks.  I’m also not sure simplification of the offense when you don’t actually shoot the ball is the answer but, you have to try something I guess.  Essentially he’s got a season and a half to turn Utah basketball in the right direction or it’s time to look elsewhere.  A good place to start would be a win on the road in a game that is winnable for us.  Wazzu.
