Everything You’ve Ever Wanted To Know About Simon Fraser

Since basketball season is upon us, we’re going to continue the tradition of Everything you want… onto the hoops teams.

Tonight we play Simon Fraser.

Simon Fraser is the only Canadian University in the NCAA.  It is located in some town in Canada that isn’t Vancouver, Montreal or Toronto so you won’t know it anyway.  The are world famous for bagpiping.  And as that sentence is read 100’s of guys at BYU are applying to transfer to Simon Fraser.  If you don’t get that joke ask me later.

It’s motto is I’m Sorry and Thank You.

It’s primary major is Poutine Studies.  If you don’t know what Poutine is, I direct you here.

It’s most famous alumni is Terry Fox, whom if you’ve seen the ESPN 30 for 30 film was a pretty amazing guy.  (Sorry to be serious for a moment)

As for basketball, well here is what you can expect from the mighty CLAN of Simon Fraser (and yes their nickname really is the Clan). Well, Simon Fraser lost 4 of their top 5 scorers from a team that won 8 games last season.  So you can see why Larry scheduled them.

Their top returning scorer is Matt Raivio.  He is the brother of former Gonzaga standout Derek Raivio, who once went into a funk for a whole season because his girlfriend dumped him.  So you know they’re mentally tough.

There isn’t much else to add here, the starting lineup should be something like Dean, Dubois, Loveridge, Lenz and Washburn, or maybe Seymour gets the spot instead of Dubois.  Since I’m not sure Simon Fraser has the talent of Montana St. who kicked our ass in a private scrimmage, I think we’ve got a real shot.

So Go Utes.
