So What Kind of Wine Goes with Crow…

So we finish a weekend of basketball which saw Utah actually win a basketball game and not look like a total abortion in the other, which is a first for this season.  And certain something I wasn’t expecting after this team just kept crapping the bed.

So the question is out there, am I going to be forced to tell myself to suck it?

To answer that question, lets look at what Larry is doing.  First, he has drastically shortened the bench, essentially 7 guys are getting all the minutes.  It seems the Blake Wilkinson experiment has come to an end.  THANKFULLY.  Second, Larry is doing all he can to shorten the games.  Third, he’s decided to teach the team the basics of defense.  And finally he’s running the entire offense through Jiggy.

My question becomes, WHAT TOOK HIM SO LONG?

One of the things I said early on is, it doesn’t take talent to play basic defense and box out.  Somehow it took till January for that to happen?  But its going to have to live on in things I don’t understand about Larry, like why would you not want to keep guys when your only option is to bring in less talented guys?

It is nice that it is finally happening however and now that unlike the MWC, the Pac-12 has gone to a mostly Thursday-Saturday schedule which doesn’t negate home court advantages.  Our travel partner creates the hardest road trip in the conference with two games where you have to fly to both, at altitude.  One of the signs of this was free throw shooting.  The Washington schools went a combined 19-39 from the line.  Wazzu’s 10-22 is essentially the reason they lost the game.  One of the great Majerus quotes, fatigue makes cowards of us all.

The problem Utah faces now is that we’re going to burn out playing 7 guys.  Frankly with as fat as he is, I don’t know how Jiggy hasn’t had a heart attack already.  But here is where Larry doesn’t have an option.  (Note: he would have had an option but decided to be mad at George Matthews instead of developing him.  When George transfers and ends up having a very nice career somewhere else, just like Shawn Glover will at Oral Roberts, we’ll wonder why).  Wilkinson is a practice player at best, Odunsi is not good and that is about it.

So, we’re going to go with the few good players we have, hope the couple of JC’s can play better than they are, make the games short and ugly and hope for a chance.  Ya Gotta Do what ya Gotta do.

And if it works despite what people think of me, I’ll enjoy eating that crow, I just need to know what kind of wine you eat with crow.
